3D Printer

I began my 3D printer project sometime around 2007-2008. I was living in Shanghai which made it very easy to source all of the materials needed to make it. I originally was working with another company which was developing the controller board, but after several unsuccessful versions I ended up making my own controller board.

My original plan was to just build one for myself, but as it progressed, I had hopes of starting a company – it was fairly early in the 3D printing business. But for a foreigner to get funding and build up a business from scratch in China – not so easy I discovered. In the end I made about 8 printers, sold them to friends and still have a few which I use almost every day, for more than 10 years now.
